Symposium de l'eau 2019

Organized by Réseau Environnement and presented by Sanexen, the 42nd Symposium on Water Management brought together more than 350 municipal stakeholders, professionals from the drinking water, wastewater and rainwater sectors, as well as companies, researchers and consultants. It was an ideal opportunity to update our knowledge and optimize our know-how around thirty conferences.

Françoise Tardif, a master student at Université Laval and a member of the CREATE TEDGIEER program, had the chance to participate in this event.

Thanks to the FONCER - TEDGIEER mobility grant, on October 22 and 23, I had the opportunity to participate in the Symposium on water management organized by Réseau Environnement and presented by Sanexen. This event is a must because it joins water stakeholders in many fields and sectors. In fact, professionals from drinking water, wastewater and stormwater, as well as companies, researchers and consultants are present. It was therefore relevant for me to attend and even present what motivates my project mastery. This is how I presented the basics of my research project and the conclusions that were useful for writing a scientific article during a conference lasting 20 minutes followed by 5 minutes to answer to questions from the public. From a professional point of view, I draw a lot from this presentation experience because it allowed me to push my limits. During my presentation session, I met other professionals who presented on the same subject as me. I was able to discuss with actors on the protection of sources of drinking water, an aspect of water management that is not negligible for the sustainability of the resource and for which I have a strong interest. In addition, I met people working in various sectors, mainly in the private sector, who wanted to know more about my career aspirations for a potential employment opportunity. During the Symposium, I also had the opportunity to attend numerous conferences on a wide range of topics such as the consequences of the strategy of reducing drinking water consumption on the quality of water Drinking water, rainwater management and upgrading of aerated ponds to deal with current and future contaminations. I also had the opportunity to attend a panel discussion on the progress of sanitation in Quebec. All these conferences allowed me to know better the state of things in terms of drinking water, waste water and rainwater as well as the efforts made to face the future challenges. The presence of several actors from various sectors in the panel allowed me to see the obstacles to sanitation. Finally, during the 5 to 7 presented by Centr'Eau, I met several professionals and other students who work in the field of water. I learned, for example, about innovative student projects to treat water using new materials.
